At Verizon, we feel it’s important to make our products and service materials accessible to everyone. The following information is provided for those with visual impairments and other disabilities. For details about the topics below, click on each link for expanded content.
Most Fios TV remote control models let you turn closed captioning on or off by pressing the CC button. Otherwise, you can always use the Media Guide to turn closed captioning on or off.
Media guide steps
- Press the Menu button on your remote control
- Select Settings
- Select System
- Select Accessibility
- Select Closed Captions
- Highlight Service Selection and press the OK button
- Scroll and select one of the CC (Closed Caption) options, then press the OK button
- CC1 = primary language the show is broadcast in (usually English)
- CC2 = secondary language the show is broadcast in (usually Spanish if available)
- CC3 thru CC6 (additional languages)
- Then press the right-arrow to highlight Save then press the OK button and press the OK button again to confirm
Text to Speech functionality for the Fios TV on-screen guide can enhance accessibility for customers with visual or other disabilities. Text to Speech provides an audible voice readout of on-screen text, such as menu and guide data. This feature can be enabled or disabled via the on-screen guide.
How to enable Text to Speech
Text to Speech functionality is available on most Verizon set-top boxes. Follow these steps to enable the feature via the settings menu:
- First go to Menu
- Next go to Settings
- Then go to System
- Go to Accessibility
- Enable Text to Speech

Set-top box compatibility
If you have a disability and feel you benefit from Text to Speech but have a set-top box that isn't compatible with this functionality, you can swap your set-top box for a compatible alternative at no charge. If you need help installing new equipment, a Verizon technician will assist you at no charge.
Descriptive Video Service (DVS) provides an audible narrative description of key visual elements to aid blind viewers.
How to enable DVS via the Fios set-top menu
When available from the broadcast provider, Fios TV customers can take advantage of this service through the Fios set-top box's Secondary Audio Program (SAP). Here's how to enable DVS via the Fios set-top menu:
- Go to Settings
- Then go to System
- Next go to Accessibility
- Go to DVS
- Choose ON
Accessible emergency information
Fios TV makes emergency information available aurally via the Secondary Audio Program (SAP) whenever content providers include this information in their programming content. You can activate SAP via the program menu by following these steps:
- Go to Settings
- Then go to Audio & Video
- Next go to Audio
- Activate Audio Selection
Verizon offers Fios TV materials such as the Welcome Flyer, equipment installation guide, channel lineups and more in both large print format and braille for our visually impaired customers.
To request a printed copy of any of these materials be shipped to you in either large print or braille, please visit verizon.com/accessiblematerials.
Please note that fulfillment of these materials may take up to 10 business days.
Would you like your channel lineup read to you?
By enabling Text to Speech on your compatible set-top box, your channel lineup can be read to you through your TV (see above for instructions).
You may request a large format or braille bill if you have a visual impairment.
It may take 1 to 2 billing cycles to receive your first alternate bill format. During this time, you will continue to receive your regular formatted bill and remit slip.
To request a large print or braille bill, simply call 1-800-837-4966 to place an order.
